Caremark was established in 1993 in Birmingham, Alabama as MedPartners, Inc. by HealthSouth Corporation alongside Richard Scrushy, previous CEO of HealthSouth, and one time HealthSouth Chief Operating Officer Larry House as a doctor practice the executives (PPM) organization. In the wake of opening up to the world on February 21 of 1995, MedPartners immediately turned into the biggest PPM organization through numerous acquisitions (see Ross-Loos Medical Group).
